Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team has just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
