Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
