The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
